When using London's public transport, you can save a lot of money by booking your train ticket early. This can save as much as 40 per cent. If you want to take the train for a trip, it's cheaper to order the train ticket online at least by midday one day before departure. You can buy a ticket 90 days before departure. So if you already know what trips you want to make, order your train tickets online in advance.
Extra costs are charged for travelling during rush hour. The train's rush hours are before 10:00 AM and from 4.00 to 8.00 PM. You can save money by travelling outside of these times. Arriving at the station without a ticket? In that case buy a return ticket straight away. This often costs only 1 pound more than a single. Tickets can be ordered via National Rail, for example. Before you leave, download the Trainline or Citymapper app and see all the travel options on the spot.
