Sustainability at the airport
Groningen Airport Eelde strives for a responsible growth that is in harmony with the environment and the people living close to the airport. The airport wants to watch over any inconvenience that may be the result of certain airport activities and limit such inconveniences as much as possible. Therefore, our main focus is noise- and CO2 reduction.
Airport Carbon Accreditation
In recognition of our program to reduce and eliminate CO2 emissions from airport operations, Groningen Airport Eelde has been granted Airport Carbon Accreditation at the mapping level in april 2014. The airport received this certificate for its effort in creating awareness and reducing CO2 emissions.
Green Sustainable Airports
Green Sustainable Airports (GSA) is an initiative of Groningen Airport Eelde. GSA is a project designed to make regional airports frontrunners in sustainable development. It aims to establish strategies and solutions for a more eco-efficient and green regional aviation industry.
Sustainable landing: gliding flights
Groningen Airport Eelde is collaborating with Netherlands Air Traffic Control to introduce gliding flights towards Eelde airport. This method is realised by approaching with reduced engine power; the airplane glides towards the runway, as it were. This landing method results in more fuel efficiency, a reduction of the CO2 footprint and a reduction of noise pollution for the direct environment of the airport.
